Sweet Peas in a Silver Jug 12″ x 12″, oil on birch panel. From my garden, in little vintage silver creamer. Painted in May or June 2017. Of course, the real fun and challenge is in the realization of the shiney creamer. Composition is straight forward with the pink bloom on the table leading one’s eye along its stem to the creamer handle –and it’s no coincidence they’re similar shapes — then up and into the massed blooms and around and around. Close examination is rewarded by discovering the pink reflection of the “fallen” bloom and stem on the belly of the creamer.
Careful still life arrangements take time and study. Don’t settle for the first arrangement that comes along. Keep tweaking. Check your lighting. Go have a coffee come back and then tweak some more. You’re going to spend a lot of time with your set up. Make sure you’ve set up an arrangement worthy of your love and skills.
